Veneer

Veneer gives furniture a sense of dignity and timelessness, warming up the interior and creating a cozy atmosphere. A veneered piece of furniture is a return to nature within your home. If you appreciate natural wooden accents combined with elegance and style, our designs will surely fulfill your dreams — together, we can create something extraordinary and original. Although mirrors are most often associated with modernity and contemporary arrangements, veneer in our projects perfectly complements a classic style, creating a sophisticated and distinctive balance within the space.

Through our training and cooperation with Rubio, we protect veneered furniture with Rubio Monocoat oil-wax, available in over 40 shades. This isn’t a random choice but the result of experience — we always select the highest-quality manufacturers offering a full range of products for preparation, treatment, protection, maintenance, refreshing, and renovation.

A word of warning: the most common amateur mistake is mixing products from two different manufacturers!

What is veneer?

Veneer is a thin, natural wood layer that is applied to furniture boards (MDF, laminated, or particleboard) to give them the appearance of a noble, solid-wood surface. It is obtained from thin sheets of wood with varying thickness — from 0.1 mm to 5 mm.

Why is the cutting method so important?

The way the wood is sliced completely changes the look and character of the finish.
There are two main types of cuts: flader (tangential cut) – produces decorative, wavy grain patterns for a highly ornamental effect. Ideal for rustic or classic interiors, or wherever you want to emphasize the natural texture of the wood. Pasiak (radial cut) – the grain forms straight, calm, and orderly lines. This is the type of finish that speaks to us the most.

When choosing veneer, it’s worth considering not only the type of wood but also how it has been cut — the visual difference can be significant.

Care of veneer protected with oil-wax

As mentioned above, we use only products from one manufacturer — RUBIO MONOCOAT. These are safe, certified products, free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and approved for contact with food and children’s toys. It’s always best to use dedicated, professional products. As furniture makers working with Rubio, we provide customers with a complete set of products for one-time protection, maintenance, and daily care. It is important to understand the correct application process — properly applied, it ensures that you’ll never have to worry about your veneered fronts or countertops again. However, incorrect steps can produce the opposite effect.

Cleaning and daily maintenance

To prolong the life of veneered fronts, use care products designed specifically for oiled surfaces. Do not clean them with dish soap, window cleaner, or universal cleaning liquids — these will wash out and damage the oil coating. We recommend RMC Surface Care, which not only removes everyday stains but also beautifully cleans and nourishes the surface, visibly extending the oil’s durability. It replenishes and revitalizes the wood with regular use. The same effect can be achieved with RMC Soap concentrate, though it should be diluted in different proportions.

Refinishing

Step 1. Stain removal – Rubio offers three specialized cleaning agents: RMC Tannin Remove, RMC Grease Remover, RMC Limespot Remover.
Step 2. Sanding
Step 3. Vacuuming
Step 4. Cleaning the surface after sanding and vacuuming (RMC Cleaner)
Step 5. Oiling – mix the oil thoroughly with the accelerator and apply evenly to the surface
Step 6. Drying
